Randolph Area Foundation fulfills grant requests

RANDOLPH — The Randolph Area Foundation  has an annual opportunity for people or organizations to apply for monetary assistance to complete their projects.

Over the years, the Foundation has given to many projects that have improved our community.

This year, because of a generous gift of stocks to the Randolph Area Foundation, the Foundation was able to fully fund all the grant requests.

All of these grants were funded because each of these projects will provide support for a broad range of people in the Randolph area.

The Randolph Teammates program mission is to mentor students, offering them companionship and guidance. Mentors are local volunteers that give an hour each week to be with their mentee. Randolph Teammates were awarded $600.

Youth Basketball, a program for boys and girls, gained a lot of participants this last year. With volunteer coaches, the youth of the community can join a group that not only teaches basketball skills, but also how to work together as a team. With this grant, all youth can participate without the worry of lack of funds. This grant was for $750.

The Downtown Beautification project was awarded $2,500 for planters to be placed in strategic locations downtown. Each season these planters will display appropriate décor for the seasons, such as live plants, fall harvest, and winter holiday themes.

The Foundation had two grant submissions that were very similar. Milo Rayford submitted a grant request to purchase two basketball hoops for the park, and Julie Kint, representing the park board, requested money to purchase hoops with lights for the park court. The RAF decided to award a total of $6,150 to these projects combined. These high quality regulation size hoops should be a great addition to the park.

Foundation organizers said none of these projects could have been funded without the generous contributions that have been given to the Foundation over the years.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, RAF can accept donations on a tax favored basis for many contributors. Always talk to your tax advisor.

Some ways to contribute include listing the Randolph Area Foundation as a beneficiary on a life insurance policy, donating appreciated stocks to help avoid capital gains if you held for more than a year.

Anyone that is 70½ or older, can donate money from an IRA or qualified plan up to your required minimum distribution, and no taxes must be paid on that amount. Or in your will, make a provision to give a set amount of money to the RAF. Finally, just writing a check to RAF to help continue with all the worthwhile projects they have been able to fund.

With area residents’ help, the Randolph Area Foundation will continue to be a cornerstone organization for all of the Randolph area.
