Randolph approves permit for new medical clinic

A 50-minute public hearing was held prior to the Council meeting to consider approval of a special use permit submitted by Jim Recob on behalf of Bruncson, LLC, to construct a medical clinic at property on north  Broadway on the west edge of the business district.

The new clinic could pose a threat to the current medical clinic operated by the Osmond General Hospital.

Community members have expressed concern that the community is being torn apart by this issue and supporting the Committee regardless of their decision.

Planning Commission Chairman, Josh Rayford, reported at their Oct. 22 meeting, the members further reviewed the parking and traffic concerns associated with the proposed property.

The Commission also reviewed the accident history report and professional opinion submitted by Police Chief Eller.

Rayford said the Planning Commission voted 3-2 to recommend approval of the special use permit to the Council.

Council accepted comments of opposition against and support for the proposed medical clinic. The Council then voted unanimously to approve the application.

The Planning Commission also voted 3-2 to recommend approval of the application for a building permit for the proposed medical clinic.

Randolph City Clerk Kelsey Backer told the Council she had reviewed the setbacks and the structure would conform with the regulations set forth in the R-2 District.

The Council then gave unanimous approval to the building permit.

Also Wednesday, Dale Bohac of JEO Consulting provided an update on the waste water treatment facility project, which is expected to be completed in the next two weeks.

Bohac said the new grinder was already installed and working properly. Backer said the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality was on site  for their initial inspection Oct. 23.
