Pierce County fair set to begin on July 28

PIERCE — The Pierce County Fair will be held Wednesday, July 28, through Sunday, Aug. 1. Activities take place at the fairgrounds in Pierce. There will be no gate admission. Grandstand admission will be charged at $20 Thursday through Sunday. Kids 10 and under are free. Season passes are $60.

Wednesday is Opening Day

Wednesday is entry day for 4-H and open class exhibits. Entries for 4-H horticulture exhibits and those not interview judged may be brought in starting at 8:30 a.m., while 4-H livestock may be brought in from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beef weigh-in is at 7 p.m. Open class entries may be brought in from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pierce American Legion Post 72 will post The Colors at 6 p.m., followed by barrel racing at 6 p.m.

Thursday’s Schedule

On Thursday, there will be a free breakfast sponsored by Michael’s Foods. The focus of events is 4-H and open class activities, including 4-H swine weigh-in at 7 a.m.; 4-H companion animal show, dairy and horse check-in and 4-H beef show, all beginning at 9 a.m.; cat show, 10 a.m., and 4-H dog show, 1:30 p.m. The open class animals check-in deadline is at 8 a.m. Nebraska Bush Pullers will take center stage at 7 p.m.

Friday Events

On Friday, a free pancake breakfast sponsored by Farmers Pride will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Several 4-H and FFA events are on tap for Friday, including the swine, sheep and goat shows at 8 a.m., horse show at 9 a.m., dairy show at 1 p.m. and livestock judging at 2:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the Hall of Fame, Pioneer and Outstanding Individual awards will be presented at the pavilion. The 4-H livestock auction will take place at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., the Extreme Bull Fighting will take place in front of the grandstand, while Borderline performs in the beer garden.

Schedule on Saturday

The schedule on Saturday includes the 4-H poultry and rabbit show, followed by open class; open class swine, sheep and market goat shows; 4-H horse games; 4-H bucket calf/Clover Bud shows and Huwaldt calf show in the morning. The mud volleyball tournament gets under way at 9 a.m. The open class breeding beef show starts off the afternoon and the FFA kids’ pedal pull starts at 3 p.m. The 4-H Style Revue begins at 6 p.m., followed by the 4-H awards night. Double S Extreme Bull Riding will begin at 8 p.m. and Luke Mills is back to close out the night in the beer garden.

Sunday Program

Sunday events begin with the 4-H inspirational service at 8:45 a.m.

A trail ride challenge begins at 9 a.m. The 4-H beef fitting clinic begins at 11 a.m. FFA hog wrestling will be held at 12:30 p.m. Animal exhibits may be released at 2 p.m. with all static exhibits released at 4 p.m. There will be an ATV rodeo at 2:30 p.m. The Colors will be retired at 6 p.m., the same time that the demolition derby begins.

Other Fair Events

Other features on tap this year are Horn T Zoo on the grounds with an exotic animal learning trailer Friday through Sunday, and Colors Da Clown with balloons and face painting on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. River City Carnival returns, and arm bands will be available.
