Osmond Food Pantry is flourishing despite pandemic

OSMOND — Although the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on events, businesses and even people’s lives, the Osmond Food Pantry, contained within the United Methodist Church (UMC), is flourishing.

Thanks to a number of organizations which gave monetary donations during 2020 and held food drives, the pantry continues to have food and other necessities available for those who need them.

“We had several individual cash donations and also donations at Tiger Town Food Center, for which we have gift certificates for fresh foods,” said Nancy von Rentzell, UMC secretary.

The food pantry would not exist without the generous people of Osmond, von Rentzell said. This year, they were able to help people in need for utilities, car gas, car repairs or rent.

The food pantry also provided 24 bags of food items along with the Sons of the American Legion during their Christmas Wishes program.

The Osmond Food Pantry thanked the following organizations for their donations: Catholic Order of Foresters-St. Joseph Court 1554, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7838, American Legion Post 326, L-G Pumping/Marvin Krienert, Lind-Gubbels, Osmond Farm Supply, Sons of the American Legion, Kirsch Transportation (Cam Moore Kirsch), Osmond Community School, Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The food pantry is located at United Methodist Church.

Mrs. von Rentzell is there Wednesday-Friday mornings for those who need help with anything, or they may call Pastor Rodgers Chishiba at the parsonage, (402) 748-3772 or on his cell, (402) 851-9640.
