Nonpartisan Primary election voting available in Knox County

CENTER — Voters who are registered as Nonpartisan in Knox County will find that there is only one race on their ballot in the upcoming Primary election and that will be for the State Board of Education District 3. Nonpartisan voters in Crofton City will have also have the City Council race and the Nonpartisan voters in Niobrara Township (village and rural) will also have the Niobrara Township Levy special election on their ballots.

Nonpartisan voters – you have a choice by statute to also vote for the senatorial and congressional races. This year the Nebraska Democratic and Libertarian parties opened their primaries meaning that Nonpartisan voters can vote on those party presidential candidates.

The Nebraska Republican party did not open their primary only the senatorial and congressional races are an option.

Therefore, a Nonpartisan voter can request a Nonpartisan Republican Ballot (congressional and senatorial races); a Nonpartisan Democratic Ballot (presidential, congressional and senatorial races); or a Nonpartisan Libertarian Ballot (presidential, congressional and senatorial races). However, the Nonpartisan voter must  request this extra ballot and if so, the Nonpartisan voter will receive two ballots in the mail – their regular ballot along with the requested Nonpartisan Partisan ballot.

A request form for a Nonpartisan Partisan ballot was published in the local papers last week and will be published again this week. The form can also be found under the “Election Information” button located on the homepage of the Knox County website of www.co.knox.ne.us.

Another way to request the extra ballot is by writing your request on a sheet of paper along with the type of Nonpartisan Partisan ballot you want, your name, address and phone number. The completed form or letter can be mailed to the Knox County Clerk’s Office at PO Box 166, Center NE 68724 or you can take a picture of it and email it to clerk@knox.nacone.org

If you don’t have email, then call Knox County Clerk Joann Fischer, 402-288-5604, and make arrangements to text it to Fischer’s cellphone.

Please send or email before April 13 as all ballots will be mailed to voters on April 22.
