New events added to this year’s community fair

RANDOLPH - The Randolph Community Fair will be back this year with old favorites residents have come to know and love and a few new offerings, too.

There’s a little something for everyone with events scheduled throughout the weekend July 7-10 for the annual fair festivities.

The Randolph Youth Football program will be hosting a movie in the park Thursday, July 7. “Little Giants” will be shown on the big screen starting at 9 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be available for a free-will donation with all proceeds going toward improving youth football equipment.

Also new this year is a craft show hosted by the Randolph Senior Center set for 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Sunday.

“I’ve always thought they need to get a craft show going so you have something for the ladies to do when the guys are looking a cars,” said Jolee Burbach, director at the senior center. “It’s right outside our front doo so it makes sense to use our building for it.”

So far, five booths will be featured at the craft show with vendors selling everything from nail appliqués to candles, T-shirts and cosmetics. The senior center will also be selling pies and bars for a freewill donation and cookbooks will also be for sale.

The Lied Randolph Public Library will once again host a Family Fun Night Friday, July 8.

Walking tacos will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. and then Dino O’Dell takes the stage at the high school commons. His entertainment will feature interactive music and storytelling to teach kids about the palaeozoic, cenozoic and mesozoic eras.

Fire truck rides will follow the program Friday night.

Saturday’s festivities kicks off with a fun run/walk at 8 a.m. at the city park. There’s no entry fee for the half-mile, mile or twomile event.

The traditional livestock show will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the Randolph Senior Center will be serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A co-ed volleyball tournament will take place and there will be free swimming at the Randolph pool from 1 to 5 p.m.

A block party in downtown Randolph will start at 8:30 p.m. with music by DJ Axel Alvarez.

The weekend’s festivities will end Sunday, July 10, with a jam-packed schedule.

One of the most popular events every year the fireman’s omelet breakfast, will start at 8 a.m. at the city auditorium. An ecumenical church service at the park will take place at 9 a.m. at the baseball field.

Antique cars and tractors will line the streets downtown for the annual Randolph FFA Booster Car and Tractor Show.

Sunday evening, the Knights of Columbus will host the kids’ pedal tractor pull at the city park beginning at 5 p.m. with participation limited to ages 4-13.

Inflatables and games will be held at the city park starting at 5:30 p.m.

The community barbecue sponsored by First State Bank begins at 6 p.m. at the city park.

The Randolph Park Board will draw the winner for its grill raffle and the annual community award winners will be announced at 7 p.m.
