New ‘robotic’ dairy being built; sneak peek is Sunday

OSMOND — Residents driving east out of Osmond might have noticed a large building going up at the Highways 20 and 121 intersection. A new business, Four Aces Dairy, is being built at that location.

The business will be owned by four of Walter & Michele Aschoff’s children. There will be 120 lactating cows that will be milked by two robots, with each robot milking 60 cows. The cows will be fed by an automatic Lely vector feeding system.

The technology that will be used to clean the floor is also Lely. It is a manure robot for dense barn floors. It is specifically designed for barns with solid floors; it does not push the manure but vacuums it.

The first 10 days of operation will be training days. After that the operation can be fulfilled by one person.

Walt advised that, after the first of the year, there will be a 24-hour viewing room. For now, a “sneak peek” will be held on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 1 to 5 p.m.
