Myers has started a budding new business here

LAUREL — Thomas Jefferson’s famous quote is very fitting for an area man.

“With great risk comes great reward,” Jefferson is quoted as saying.

Roger Myers knows something about risk taking. The Wayne native moved away from home upon graduating high school and has been taking risks ever since.

He spent 25 years in education, both nationally and internationally.

Myers learned about as much while teaching as his students did, he said.

“The part I enjoyed most about my teaching career was the opportunity I had to work with international students and families,” he said. “I got to learn and live their culture.”

While taking a drive down main street of Laurel, Roger Myers noticed the For Sale sign hanging up in The Laurel Plantation. “So many small towns are losing their downtown businesses and I couldn’t let that happen.” Myers had been searching for an investment opportunity and this one basically jumped right out at him during his cruise through Laurel.

The Laurel Plantation was purchased and changed the name to “Floral Footprints.”

Myers hired Juliana Hoffart to be the manager and Janet Kavanaugh to help with operations. Both have skills in silk and fresh floral arrangements along with greenhouse functions. Myers said his prior experience in retail and business ownership will be beneficial to the business. Myers is looking forward to this venture and continuing to be a life-long learner.

“This adventure is one more learning opportunity God has definitely allowed me to enter into.  I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Floral Footprints.  The community of Laurel has already been very supportive and patient with us, for which we are grateful.  My hope is that Floral Footprints will be able to grow with the community of Laurel and keep main street vibrant and active for many years.”
