Memorial Day services can be viewed on-line

WAUSA — Due to the social distancing requirements, there will not be the usual Memorial Day Service this year. However, you will be able to view our first Virtual Memorial Day Service. Men of the American Legion Post #63 and the VFW Post #5824 gathered to prepare this service.

Mark Dawson began with a welcome and the Pledge of Allegiance. Rev. Judy Carlson gave the Invocation followed by the reading of the Roll Call of the deceased veterans that are buried in these cemeteries: Magnet Cemetery, Golgotha Lutheran Cemetery, Thabor Lutheran Cemetery and Woodlawn Cemetery. The six men who are buried overseas were acknowledged. The Roll Call was read by Mike Kumm and Mark Dawson.

A musical selection was given by Mrs. Patricia Sedivy and Mrs. Jennifer Schindler. Rev. Judy Carlson gave the address reminding everyone of the many sacrifices given by our military men and women. She closed with a benediction.

The rest of the program concluded at the Auditorium park where the Honor Guard was led by VFW Post Commander, Larry Carlson. The firing squad consisted of: Randy Carlson, Rod Banks, Chris Wilken, Mike Kumm, Mark Dawson, and Bruce Jorgensen.

The Star Spangled Banner was sung by Brad Hoesing while the American flag was lowered to half-staff. Mrs. Sedivy closed with the “Taps” and a closing prayer was given by Rev. Carlson.

Special thanks to Sheila Hoesing for filming and editing. You will be able to view this Virtual Memorial Day service this weekend on Facebook sites: Wausa Public Schools and Commercial State Bank. You are encouraged to share onto your own Facebook page so that others can enjoy it as well.
