Memorial Committee wants to get final names, changes in this month

RANDOLPH — The local Veterans Memorial Committee is proud to announce that the Randolph Area Veterans Memorial continues to progress.

The next phase is engraving the granite pillars with the names of area veterans who have been honorably discharged from service and who consider the Randolph area, either past or present, their home.

There is no cost to have your or a loved one’s name on the memorial and we want everyone to be included.

The committee has compiled this list of names from records at the Cedar and Pierce County Veterans Services offices as well as some other sources.

But committee members say they know this list is incomplete and many veterans’ names are missing.

“Please take a moment and review the list for your name or names of family members who have been discharged from serving our country. If you see any errors (including spelling or era of service) or omissions, please let us know by sending a copy of the Service Member’s Form DD 214,” Committee members said.

The committee can be reached at: Julie Kint at PO Box 38, Randolph NE 68771 or email Julie at j_kint@hotmail. com or email Sandy Owens at sowens@fsbrandolph.bank or they can be dropped off at First State Bank in Randolph.

“We are requesting the information be sent as soon as possible but no later than Sept. 30, 2020,” Kint said.

“Please be aware that space is being left available to add either missed names or additional veterans when they leave the service in the future, so this will be an ongoing effort that we request your help with.”

On a side note, bricks are still available for purchase at $250 each to help with perpetual care of the memorial, including flag replacement and adding veterans’ names in the future.

Order forms are available at First State Bank or on our Facebook page, Randolph Area Veterans Memorial.

Committee member said they appreciate all of the support the Randolph community has shown toward this project.

A full page listing is inside this week’s Randolph Times.
