Matching grant could help get new Laurel Fire Hall built

LAUREL — The goal of building a new Laurel Fire Hall just got a little more attainable thanks to a generous area family.

A very generous family has presented the Laurel Fire and Rescue with an opportunity to make a difference.

The family has agreed to make a matching donation of $100,000 if raised by Dec. 1.

The facility is needed because today’s fire fighting trucks are larger than those used when the current hall was constructed. A new hall would also allow the local Fire Dept. to host continuing education classes and meetings that can accommodate larger groups.

The location of the Fire Hall has been sighted for construction south of ACE Hardware.

Fundraising for the project has been made difficult because of the pandemic.

Due to Covid, the traditional Pancake Feed, which has been a huge part of the fundraising efforts in the past, will not be held this year.

In addition to the Capital Campaign, a raffle has been set up featuring some very nice items donated by area businesses.

Anyone that would like to purchase a raffle ticket should let one of the Fireman or Rescue Squad members know.

The Raffle Drawing will be held on Facebook live Nov. 29.

Anyone that would like to help in the efforts to earn a matching donation up to $100,000, can simply drop a check off to the Laurel Fire Department at P.O. Box 255, Laurel, NE 68745
