Local Veterans are honored

RANDOLPH — The annual Veterans Day Program featured patriotic songs, and inspirational talks.

The event opened with the Parade of Colors and AJ Blickenstaff leading everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Fr. Tim Forget gave the invocation and benediction.

Jerry Wiese introduced everyone and Mayor George Bradley gave the welcome.

Aeden Ottis and Tyson Junck played the Taps.

Daryl G. Harrison, American Legion Area “A” Vise Commander, who was born in Wayne, addressed the crowd at Randolph High School.

Harrison, an Air Force veteran, enlisted as a high school drop-out in 1973. He was trained as a Para-rescueman. He graduated from Fort Benning Jump School, Para-rescue Medical Training, 2nd Class Naval Diving School, and the Air Force Survival and POW Simulation School. Six weeks before he was to receive his beret Mr. Harrison was hospitalized for Ulcerative Colitis and was medically discharged.

Harrison has dedicated himself to serving Nebraska Veterans since his retirement. He currently is involved with the American Legion in providing K-9’s for the State Patrol though an initiative involving the Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Riders.
