Local library to celebrate big milestone

WAUSA — The Lied Lincoln Township Library will mark a very important milestone next week.

The local library will celebrate its 100th birthday Sept. 27-30 with an Open House each day.

Coffee, tea, lemonade and snacks will be served from 1:30-5:00 p.m., each day. Historic yearbooks, Gazette articles, books, and items original to the library will be on display.

Because the library is celebrating 100 years, a $100 Amazon gift card will also be given away. You must be at least 18 to register at the library, and may only register once during the week.

Good at guessing? There will be several jars filled with items and participants can guess which ones have 100 items in them.

On Thursday, Sept. 30, Kyle Schumacher will present a photo tour of Willow Creek Prairies at 2 p.m.

He will share how this unique landscape is important to this area. He’ll also discuss the plants and wildlife in the Willow Creek Prairies. He  is the Coordinating Wildlife Biologist at Northern Prairies Land Trust.

The Lincoln Township Library was first opened to the public Oct. 13, 1920, in the old city hall where the community auditorium now stands.

After moving to the Nelson Produce location, the library was dedicated at its current location in 1935. The move to the new building was completed in June of 2014.

Librarians serving the community were Rose Banks, Edna Hilberg, Arlene Schurr, Ruth Carlson, and Virginia Lindquist. Wendy Ketelsen currently serves as librarian.
