Local businesses, grant writers, city employees and volunteers work to beautify downtown Randolph
RANDOLPH — “With the funds awarded for "Restoring Seasonal Beauty to Downtown Randolph," a great collaborative group of individuals, businesses, volunteers and help from our city employees a dream to help beautify Randolph has now become a reality.
J a n e l l e Biernbaum, submitted the grant with ideas and input from Karla Korth, local business owner and Kalynda Kuhl, City Council Person. The estimated costs for the project was more than double the cost of the grant. Knowing that, the ladies worked with the City to get a matching grant of $2500 to help cover the costs of the Lonesborough Resin Pot Planters.
The remainder of the project was completed with donations. Derek Kuhl, local business owner of Diversified Insurance purchases the plants for the entire project from Wattier's True Value Hardware's plant shop, Janelle Biernbaum, former Economic Development Director purchased the top soil and potting soil from Sam Reineke, of Sam's Hardware Hank, local business owner who provided a discount on her volume purchase and the good rich farm top soil was donated by Mark Korth, local farmer.
On Monday evening Kalynda and Audra Kuhl, Janelle Biernbaum, volunteers Julie Kint and 4-Her's Meghann Miller and Lilly Kuchta started the process of filling the planters. With the great help of our city employees they helped finish the huge undertaking of filling the planters and then placing them in the designated locations the group had selected on Tuesday, Tuesday afternoon Kalynda, Janelle, Karla, Julie,
Meghann and Lilly undertook the final stage of the project by planting the beautiful flowers. Once the flowers were all planted in place Derek Kuhl graciously went around and watered all the newly planted flowers.
This was truly a great representation of community pride and partnerships working together for their own community! A very special thank you is extended to all those who helped with this project for our community.
The task now will be keeping our beautiful planters watered throughout this spring and summer where the committee is seeking to see if there would be a volunteer(s) who may be interested in helping water our planters three times a week, approximately one hour each day with city provided watering equipment.
