LCC students attend national FFA convention

LAUREL — A select few of the LCC FFA members started the 11-hour trip to National FFA in Indianapolis last Tuesday.

Hopping right off the charter bus Wednesday morning, Jayden Pick, Jaclyn Kempf, Cody Kempf, Caleb Lipp, Samantha Pehrson, Sarah Karnes, Madalynn Graham, Advisor Tejlor Strope went to the FFA Event Center.

From there they got the chance to go to the college and business expo or shop from stores that support farmers.

Jaclyn Kempf got to meet one of her favorite celebrities: Dale Brisby Ol’son. The group got to make new friends everywhere from Puerto Rico, an American territory, to Alaska.

At the FFA expo, members met with colleges from all over the nation, talk to national farming organizations, and learn about new farming technology. The boys enjoyed looking at the new combines and the Ducks Unlimited booth.

The group went to a session where they learned about entrepreneurship and how solving problems can be easy.

After the first day at the convention center, the LCC FFA group went to a rodeo which is “the hardest rodeo” in the nation. Tejlor Strope, FFA adviser, with encouragement from the group, competed in a horse race. Video footage can be found on the LCC FFA Instagram or Facebook pages. The following day, the group went to an opening session at the Lucas Oil Stadium and visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. There, the group got a van tour around the track and kissed the bricks, which is a tradition of the track.

The LCC FFA group also visited the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. There they got to see how professional bats are made. Continuing touring famous stops, the group went to Churchill Downs to hear the history and see the track where many horse races happen each year.

The last stop the group made before heading back home to Nebraska was the Indiana Caverns. This is a place for tourists/ to go into a cave to see rock formations and fossils of extinct animals.

All the students said they thoroughly enjoyed the trip. They arrived home late Saturday night.
