Law enforcement continue to investigate Laurel burglary

LAUREL — The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Laurel Police Department continue to investigate a burglary at the Laurel ACE Hardware.

Chief Deputy Chad Claussen filed for a search warrant to compel Google to provide location data for users who may have been near the building at the time of the burglary Jan. 22. As of last week, no information has been returned as part of the search warrant and Claussen continues to work with Google’s Legal Investigations Support.

Security camera footage shows that a man entered ACE Hardware at about 8:30 p.m. Jan. 22, immediately went to the Milwaukee Tools, filled a cart with about $1,700 worth of tools and exited the building about one hour later.

Laurel Police Chief Ron Lundahl said that officers responded to the burglar alarm and the public was never in any danger, classifying the incident as a “smash and grab.”

Lundahl said no other details were available as to not jeopardize an ongoing investigation.
