Laurel treatment plant gets an update

LAUREL — Last week the Laurel Sewage Treatment Plant received some much needed work from Wayne Korth Construction.

The inner walls of the sewer plant were starting to show wear and tear and were in need of repair.

Laurel City Administrator Mark McCoy said the work on the inner walls of the treatment plant should last about 25 years.

The plant was built in 1967 and in the past 54 years, several upgrades have been done.

In 2011, a UV Light System was installed. This system provides another disinfection method for destroying disease causing organisms. In 2015, the original clarifier metal parts were all replaced. The clarifier is used to separate solids from the water. In 2019, a new lift station was built on the south side of Logan Creek.
