LAUREL-Laurel’s new 911 emergency system is now fully operational, according to city administrator, L.J. Mallatt. Northwestern Bell Company workers completed the switchover to 911 from the old seven-digit numbers Friday. This means that effective immediately, all fire, police and aid calls should be dialed over the 911 line. Conversion to the new system makes Laurel one of the first cities in Northeast Nebraska to join the growing coast-to-coast 911 network.
