Hospital goes ‘back to basics’ at annual health fair

OSMOND — The annual Osmond General Hospital Health Fair, with the theme “Back to Basics,” was held last Wednesday and Thursday with many options for health checks available, as well as a baked goods sale with proceeds going to the care center residents activity fund.

“We drew a smaller crowd over previous years,” said Lon Knievel, CEO of Osmond General Hospital.

There were 100 people in attendance at this year’s health fair, compared to 172 attendees in 2019.

The hospital did not hold a health fair in 2020 because of active COVID-19 spread in the region.

Knievel commented, “We thought the crowd might be smaller this year, knowing that many more people are taking advantage of their health insurance wellness benefit.”

“This year’s community health fair was a scaled down version of what we have done in the past,” Knievel continued. “We focused on getting back to the basics, offering only the lab tests, a COVID-19 antibody test, EKGs, blood pressures and skin checks.”

Knievel shared the following specifics about the tests run this year: 94 health screen panels, 39 PSA tests, 36 Hemoglobin A1c, 30 EKG, 18 skin checks and 14 for Bryan Health Mobile Screenings.

The winner of the quilt raffle was Becky Croghan of Pierce.
