Herians receive Pierce County Fair Hall of Fame Award

PIERCE — The following announcement of the Hall of Fame Award was read during the ceremony held Friday evening, July 31, at the Pierce County Fair.

The Hall of Fame Award began in 1983 to recognize individuals who have served the Pierce County Fair and Ag Society in various capacities for an extended period of time. The selection of a Hall of Famer is an important part of the history of the Pierce County Fair. The recipient of this award has given time, talent, energy and commitment to making the fair better each year.

The recipients of the Hall of Fame Award have been active supporters of the Pierce County Fair most of their entire lives. Growing up, both individuals were active 4-H members, exhibiting everything from baking and sewing to livestock at the Pierce County Fair.

They appreciated the values and life lessons 4-H provided and saw to it that their children became active members as well. Counting the five grandchildren who are involved in 4-H, five generations of this family have been involved with the Pierce County Fair. They received the Pioneer Farm Award in 2013.

They were supporters of the Bs&Gs 4-H club for 20 years. From 1990 to 1997, they served as swine superintendents.

They have been members of the Pierce County Agricultural Society since 1992, serving as officers on the board of directors and overseeing the demolition derby. They were also involved with the planning and construction of the new pavilion and headquarters. They have also been involved in the Young Homemakers Extension Club and Extension boards.

It is with great honor that we present this Hall of Fame Award to Jim and the late Diane Herian. Diane served as treasurer from 2016 to 2019 and Jim is currently president of the Pierce County Agricultural Society. We certainly appreciate their dedication to the Pierce County Fair.
