Haven House shares its message here

LAUREL — There’s a new display at the Laurel Learning Center. The purple figures, which were recently installed by Haven House of Wayne, represent the stories and statistics of domestic violence as part of The Silent Witness Initiative.

The Silent Witness Initiative began placing community-based displays containing information about domestic violence in 1990.

Each figure contains the story of a domestic violence survivor or facts about domestic violence. The first displays featured the stories of 26 women whose lives were ended by domestic violence. A 27th figure was added as a witness. The displays can be found in all 50 states and over 23 countries featuring local stories and statistics.

Haven House of Wayne placed the display in Laurel to remind people that we are still providing services during COVID-19 pandemic. The display features statistics about the more than 12 million people per year that are subjected to some form of domestic violence. Last month, Haven House provided services to over 63 clients. Sixteen of those clients were from Cedar County.
