Flag, sign designed to capture people’s attention

LAUREL — “I stand for the flag. I kneel for Jesus Christ.”

In an age where dividing lines are drawn by whether you choose to stand or kneel, a local couple decided to adopt both gestures.

Leonard [Lenny] and Jeannie Jones are both standing and kneeling for what they believe in.

They are encouraging others to do the same. The Jones’s, who live just north of Wayne, put a hand-crafted sign on the corner of their property earlier this summer.

“With everything going on these days, we wanted to make a statement about our faith in Jesus Christ and our love for America.” Jeannie Jones said.

The sign, which was built by the couple, was inspired by a similar billboard on Highway 81 near Norfolk.

That sign has the phrase, “I stand for the flag and kneel for the cross.”

Lenny wanted the sign to be more specific, which is why he changed the verbiage to say, “I kneel for Jesus Christ.”

The couple has lived in their home for nearly three decades, now and knows that the traffic on Highway 15 is steady.

They have noticed several vehicles stopping to take pictures of the sign.

“We don’t get a chance to talk to everyone or notice everyone who stops by, but we are glad people are enjoying it as much as we do,” he said.
