Fischer expects to see record turn out here

CENTER —  Knox County voters want to make sure their voices are being heard.

The Knox County Clerk’s office have given out 5,417 ballots  for next week’s election.

By Monday at 5 p.m. Knox County Clerk Joann Fischer said  2,898 or 53.5 percent of the ballots had already been returned.

Fischer said she is not surprised to see so many people turning the ballots in already.

The Knox County Clerk’s office mailed the ballots out on Oct. 14, and just five days later, they already had 1,300 ballots returned to their office.

“The response has been good. I am glad to see so many people voting,” Fischer said. “We just got a pile of them that came in the mail and in person today, so that number should really be going up.”

Fischer expects to easily see a new record this year for voter turn out.

“We had a record number vote in the Primary Election and I foresee the General Election turn out to exceed the previous years’ numbers.”

Fischer said people really want to make their opinions known this election season.

Fischer said the drop boxes — especially the drop box at the courthouse — are being well utilized in Knox County

“It’s tremendous I’m glad to see it,” she said.

The courthouse drop box is in the east foyer of the Courthouse and the foyer is open 24/7 and under camera surveillance, she said.

Three banks around the county also have drop boxes for the election.

Commercial State Bank in Wausa, and the Bank of Hartington bank branches in Niobrara and Bloomfield also have drop boxes where people can deposit their ballots.
