Erwin is named as ‘Teacher of the Year’

WAYNE — Carol Erwin was recently named the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year in Nebraska.

Erwin is an associate professor at Wayne State College. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1999 with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and earned her Master’s Degree in 2004 in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane College. She completed her Doctorate in adult and Higher Education Administration from the University of South Dakota in 2018.

She taught for 12 years in the FCS classroom at the high school level and advised FCCLA Chapters in Rock County, Stuart, Coleridge, Laurel-Concord and Randolph before taking a position at Wayne State College teaching foods and nutrition classes and working with Family and Consumer Science majors.

Under her guidance, the FCS Education Department at Wayne State has seen a 120 percent increase. The program has gone from one student in the 2012-13 academic year to 35 majors in the 2018-19 academic year.
