Election deadlines are drawing near

HARTINGTON —Anyone planning on registering to vote or switch party affiliation must do so by the end of this week.

The deadline to register in person at the Cedar County Clerk’s office is Friday, Oct. 26.

The deadline has already passed to switch party affiliation or to register to vote at a Dept. of Motor Vehicles office or online. That deadline was  Oct. 19.

Cedar County Clerk Dave Dowling said the deadline to turn in Early Ballots or Mail-in Ballots is Nov. 6.

All those ballots must be in before the polls close that day, he said.

Area residents living in All-Mail Precincts should already have their ballots in hand.

Dowling said those were all mailed out last week.

Those ballots can either be mailed back in, or hand delivered to the Courthouse. Dowling said a drop box is located on the north side of the Cedar County Courthouse for anyone that drops a ballot off after hours.

This week’s issue of the Coleridge Blade features sample ballots from the Cedar County Clerk’s office.

Area residents can use them to familiarize themselves with who, and what are on the ballot Nov. 6.

Residents in northern Cedar County will have a choice for County Commission. That is the only contested race for a county position this year.

Chris Tramp will be the only name on the ballot. He defeated incumbent Terry Pinkelman in the Democratic primary. He will face two write-in candidates on Nov. 6. Former Commissioner Dick Donner and Eugene Pinkelman are both seeking the spot as write-ins.
