Economic Development interns plan Osmond July 11 pool party

PIERCE — After three weeks in the community, we have dived head first into our projects for the summer as Rural Futures Institute interns at Pierce County Economic Development. Some of our projects include promotional videos, designing logos and graphics, organizing community events, attending community meetings and meeting community leaders. Our projects and our days vary quite a bit, but through every step, we have loved getting to know the communities and seeing what we can do to help.

We’ve spent time in each town filming for our promotional videos. Our next challenge is to create one for each city featuring community members sharing why they choose Pierce County.

We have also created a logo for Pierce County Economic Development and the Pierce ECAP project.

For the Rural Futures Institute internship program, we are required to do 10 hours of community service. We have chosen to create sociallydistanced community events for Pierce, Plainview and Osmond for our community service.

In Plainview, we partnered with The Plainview News to host a sidewalk chalk contest on July 18. Kids may register in front of the news office to receive chalk. There are five age categories that go from toddlers to adults. Participants can chalk from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and judging will begin at noon. Winners will receive Klown Kash donated by The Plainview News. The Plainview Chamber of Commerce has donated popsicles and water for the event.

In Pierce, we will be releasing a scavenger hunt list on Facebook and Instagram at 9 a.m. on July 18, to be held from then on. The list will feature items you can find at home and throughout the community. Participants will take original photos with each item and email them to us at marie. meis@huskers.unl.edu or judith.grey@ucollege.edu. Prizes include a $25 gift card to a Pierce business of winner’s choice for first completed and most creative and a $20 gift card for second most creative. To follow the event, like and follow Pierce County Nebraska Economic Development on Facebook or piercecoed on Instagram.

To celebrate Osmond’s new pool, we will have a pool celebration on Saturday, July 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. We will have a booth outside of the pool with a prize wheel. Participants can spin the wheel to win an assortment of prizes. Prizes vary from beach balls to swimming goggles. US92 and NCN will live broadcast from the event. R Extreme Ice Cream Truck will also be on site.

We have loved meeting many different business owners and going to community events. We are excited to host these events and meet even more people from the county.
