Dominas have enjoyed 70-plus Valentine’s Days

COLERIDGE — Staying married for 72 years is not for the faint of heart.

Although those seven decades have been mostly good for Marvin and Jackie Domina of Coleridge.

The two met when Marvin was working at the Conoco station owned by Ernie Wells - who instigated getting the two of them together. They courted

They courted and quickly fell in love with Marvin proposing on Jackie’s 18th birthday.

“We spent a lot of times with friends on the dance floor,” Jackie said of their dating years. The couple married Feb. 19,

The couple married Feb. 19, 1950, in the Coleridge Lutheran Church, and settled into life - Marvin as a farmer and Jackie as a farmer’s wife.

They were blessed with five children: David of Omaha; Roger of Rocking Mount, N.C.; Larry of Coleridge; Karen Conley of St. Louis; and Carol Thiele of Clearwater.

They count 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren among their many blessings. Growing up in Coleridge and attending country school, Jackmodestly by enjoying a meal at a restaurant.

“It’s usually the way we celebrate Valentine’s Day,’’ Jackie said.
