Disaster Housing Project to be discussed at Monday meeting

OSMOND — The public will have an opportunity to comment on a proposed Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Funds (NAHTF) application at the city council meeting scheduled for Monday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Osmond city auditorium.

According to Lowell Schroeder with the Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District, “The proposed Osmond Disaster Housing Project will utilize NAHTF activities to benefit four households under 120% median household income.”

The primary focus of this project, Schroeder said, will be the development of affordable housing solutions to assist homeowners located within the 100-year flood plan to relocate to a safer living situation.  Affordability will be gauged by home development cost and the ability of homeowner to obtain reasonable mortgage payments.

The NAHTF funds will be used for the eligible project activities of demolition, new single-family home construction, homebuyer assistance and single-family purchase-rehabilitation-resale. NAHTF funds will also be budgeted for general grant administration, paint testing-risk assessment-clearance testing and housing management.

The proposed project will assist qualified homeowners who were impacted by the March 2019 flood event and who have committed to participate in the 2020 Osmond Flood Mitigation Project. The project target area is located between the south side south of Highway 20 and the North Fork Elkhorn River.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the meeting.
