Community fish fry a success

RANDOLPH — Cardinal Kids Learning Center had a very successful kickoff to raise money toward a $25,000 matching grant given by the Randolph Area Foundation.

A fish fry, auction, and raffle were held at the Randolph City Auditorium March 6, with approximately 500-550 people in attendance. The total money raised came to $13,000, plus, a generous $2,000 donation from the Randolph Youth Wrestling Club, which brings the current total to $15,000 toward a matching grant.

This was a community-wide event that included countless volunteers too numerous to mention working together, and the following organizations: CKLC Board of Directors, Knights of Columbus, Randolph Area Foundation, United Methodist Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Luther League, CYO, Catholic Order of Foresters, PCCW, ROAR, Randolph Fire Department, Joe Aschoff Auctioneer, and the City of Randolph.

Raffle tickets were sold at the event for chances to win an envelope on a money tree donated by Derek and Kalynda Kuhl. Many individuals and businesses donated items auctioned off during the event, these items brought $3,825: Shear Image - Manicure and Pedicure; Generations Photography - Free Sitting Fee; Jim Schnoor - half day weekend fishing trip for two; Youth Wrestling Club - four tickets to Cornhuskers wrestling Dual; Studio 103 - Free Summer Dance class 1 student; Vonnie Arens and Nikki Tunink - mystery road trip for two females; Midwest Bank - Tatanka golf outing for four; Pat Van Slyke and daughters - dinner for eight with music by George Bradley; Mark and Karla Korth – eight cornstalk bales; Scott and Gina Backhaus – 12 yards of gravel; Dan Tunink – fall turkey hunt; Rick and Sue Korth – eight cornstalk bales; Mark Linville – evening at Northeast Shooters Association; KTN Korth Thies Nordhues – two bags seed corn; Highway 59 Ag Kyle Korth – eight bags soybean seed; Josh and Joanna Rayford – two Nebraska Football Tickets; St. Jane Frances Quilting Ladies – quilt; and Sam’s Hardware Hank – youth toy pizza set.

This fundraiser was just the start of the CKLC Board of Director’s mission to raise $25,000 during 2020 to take advantage of the $25,000 matching grant funds. Other events are being planned for the year so that the fundraising goal can be met.
