Coleridge Am. Legion, Auxiliary hold Nov. mtgs

Coleridge — Coleridge American Legion Post #114 and Auxiliary, Unit #114, met at the Coleridge Community Building Monday, Nov. 2, for their November meetings. The unit jointly recited the Pledge of Allegiance and divided to their respective meetings.

In the Auxiliary meeting, Dolores Thomas, chaplain, gave a reading and prayer which was followed by standing in silence in memory of our dead. After the preamble of the Constitution was jointly read, the vice president Linda Beam called the meeting regularly convened. Secretary Rose Mary Polak called the roll with eight members responding and then read the minutes of the October meeting which were approved. Three new members of the Auxiliary were recognized: Joan Cautrell, Brenda Lage and Jenni Bartling.

Treasurer Diane Wemhoff gave the treasurer’s report, which was also approved as read. She had paid all the gifts that were approved at the last meeting and also stated the eight dozen small poppies and 24 large poppies had been paid for. They will be picked up at the District III convention in March at Ponca.

In Old Business, it was announced the Veterans Home is closed because of the Covid-19, so there will be no Dollar Days gathering Nov. 3. Linda Beam gave Diane Wemhoff a copy of the Americanism Essay Contest rulings for 2021 and Diane will take the information to the Middle School. There are two veterans living at The Embers, Virgil Bayne and Dennis Heimes; none currently at Park View Haven. Linda Beam will purchase Thanksgiving balloons and deliver them to Virgil and Dennis this month.

The Auxiliary and Legion discussed the Veteran’s Day program at the Middle School and it was voted to not participate this year because of Covid-19. Several upcoming events may not be held at the Veterans Home including Yanks Who Gave Day on Dec. 11. The Mid-Year Conference in January and Dist. III convention in March were also discussed and again, Covid-19 will determine if they can be held.

The Dec. 7 Christmas party for our units was also discussed and we voted to not have the potluck in December, nor the meeting or entertainment. We also do not meet in the cold month of January so the next scheduled meetings are set for Feb. 1, 2021, 6:30 p.m.

Vice president Beam called the meeting adjourned.
