City hopes to promote spring cleaning

RANDOLPH — It’s that time of year again —spring cleaning.

This year’s citywide spring cleanup event begins with electronics recycling and ends with the annual rummage sale.

“I hope people take advantage of this event to spruce up their home environment and property,” said City Administrator Ben Benton. “The overall goal is to keep Randolph beautiful.”

Electronics such as old computer monitors and accessories, TVs and others can be dropped off at the city office starting March 28 through April 8. A small fee is charged to cover the cost of hauling those items to Norfolk for recycling, Benton said.

Clothing, furniture and other household items in good condition can be dropped off ahead of the annual rummage sale by appointment through the city office or April 5-7 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the city auditorium.

The annual rummage sale is set for April 8-9 and proceeds will benefit the Lied Randolph Public Library.

Electronics and exercise equipment will not be taken for the rummage sale.

As part of the spring cleanup event, the city also will collect unused, expired chemicals such as paint and solvents at the city office shop area.

Used tires may be taken to West Randolph Farm Supply for a fee.

For all other items that can’t be recycled or donated, residents can utilize a roll-off dumpster near the auditorium April 8-11.

The city always takes plastic, glass, cardboard, tin and aluminum cans for recycling at the trailers west of the city offices.

Appliances, green waste and concrete will always be accepted at the city recycling center with some items requiring a fee.
