City hears second reading on annexation

RANDOLPH — The Randolph City Council held its second reading of a proposed annexation plan Oct. 28.

The special meeting was held at the library due to renovations at the city office.

The third reading will be at their Nov. 4 meeting, at 6:30 p.m. That meeting will also be in the library due to renovations at the city office.

Council members approved the economic development advisory board bylaws.

The board will be comprised of five members who reside within the 68771 zip code. Each member will serve a three-year term.

The board will be expected to proceed with the downtown revitalization plan, according to Josh Rayford.

Rayford said the idea is not to limit the board by putting too much description in writing.

Randolph Economic Development Board members will be appointed by the Council at the December meeting.

City administrator Ben Benton said Tony Backer met with the rescue squad and determined the minimum bid that council members would take for the ambulance will be $6,500.

Council members were also told the land deal between the city and Rich Olson is now complete.

Olson purchased a triangular piece of property that was discovered to have been surveyed incorrectly in the past. The land was determined to belong to the city of Randolph. Olson is working with the city and City Attorney Keelan Holloway to draft the deed and get it filed at the courthouse.

Council members were told the November meeting will feature information on the city’s effort to put its ordinances online through a commercial company.

Western Area Power and the possible purchase of electricity will also be on the agenda.
