RANDOLPH — Janelle Biernbaum wants to expand her efforts to help the town of Randolph.

Biernbaum recently filed to be a candidate for the Randolph City Council.

“I felt that I would be a good contributor to help see that the incentives for bringing in industry and the flood plain abatement project are accomplished,’’ she said.

As of this date, only two people have filed for the open Council seats — Biernbaum and current Board member Kalynda Kuhl.

Biernbaum said she has always liked to be involved in making her community a better place.

“I have a lot of experience to offer,’’ she said. “I worked on the Mayor’s economic development team in Missouri. I served on the City of Raymore’s TIFF (Tax Increment Financing) commission and charter revenue commission. I held the president of the Chamber of Commerce and other positions,” she said.

“It is important to run for office because it is important to see that our city continues to see improvements and grow. I have a lot of knowledge in relation to that. I am aware of a lot of things that can be done to help our community,’’ she said. “Randolph is a small community and so people are able to work together,’’ she said. “If we work with each other, we can accomplish a lot.’’

“Communication is a big key factor,’’ she said. “We need to communicate what needs to be done through town hall meetings talking and discussions with the council.’’

She said grant writing workshops have been the most helpful.

“I am looking forward to the revitalization of Randolph and look forward to seeing more businesses locate here,’’ she said. “I look forward to working with the mayor and the council and helping with the flood plain project. This is the main project that needs to happen. I truly feel that I can bring a new perspective to help with things.’’

She is also a trained nursing home administrator and attended Grand Island School of Business and Baker University in Overland Park, Kansas. She is a member of the VFW at Wausa, where her mother was president of the VFW. She also belongs to PCCW here in Randolph at St. Frances Catholic Church.

Born in Randolph, Biernbaum went to school in the town through second grade. Her family moved to Wausa and lived on a farm. She graduated from Wausa High School.

She moved back to Randolph three years ago to be near her significant other, Dwayne Schutt.

She said they knew each other in high school and reconnected. Her husband, Galen Biernbaum, passed away 14 years ago.
