Bessmer thanked for years of service as mayor

OSMOND — Just before the reorganization of the Osmond City Council on Monday, Dec. 14, Councilman Doug Schmit stepped forward and asked Mayor James Bessmer to stand. Schmit presented a gift to the outgoing mayor on behalf of all members of council and the community, extending a very grateful thank you to the mayor for his years of service and dedication to the many hours of work entailed in the operations of the city. Bessmer’s wife, Nancy, their children Jennifer and Jared, grandchildren Cayden and Keegan, and a friend, Grace, were present and joined him to share in the occasion. Bessmer was appointed to the council in November of 2005 to fill the position of Missy Hoppe, who had resigned her position. Bessmer was later appointed mayor in March 2010 to fill the unexpired term of then-Mayor Henry Schmit, who resigned, and he was elected as mayor in 2012. James and wife Nancy have owned and operated Tiger Town Food Center since 2011. After a fire in July of 2017, they rebuilt their store and reopened in March of 2018.
