Bears get off to a good start in NE Neb. Shootout
WAYNE — The Bears raced out of the gates in their Great Northeast Neb. Shootout opener with Arlington, then hung on to claim a seven-point win.
The Bears earned a 15-9 first-quarter advantage then extended their halftime lead to 33-19 with an 18-10 second-quarter run,
The Bears’ first quarter run was paced by Ty Erwin, who hit three buckets and a charity shot.
Wilton Roberts, Cael Hartung and Noah Schutte also hit jumpers in the frame.
Arlington changed things up at the break to slow the LCC attack down in the third quarter, outscoring the Bears 18-14 to whittle their deficit to 10 points — 47-37.
The Eagles again managed to outscore the Bears in the final frame, 25-22, but it wasn’t enough to claim the win.
Schutte got hot in the final frame, hitting four jumpers to pace the offense. He ended up hitting 13-18 from the field in the contest.
The Bears offense was once again led by Schutte who notched yet another double-double on the season. He hit for 27 points and yanked down 15 rebounds.
Evan Haisch and Ty Erwin also hit for double figures with 13 points each.
