Bears compete in conference golf, seventh in Pierce meet

PONCA — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge headed up to Highland Oaks Golf Course on the edge of Ponca State Park near Ponca May 1 to play in the Lewis and Clark Conference Golf Meet.

The Bears finished sixth in the 13-team event with a score of 409. Ponca won the team title after carding a 349.

Creighton was second (377), Tri County Northeast was third (385), Hartington-Newcastle was fourth (401) and Plainview was in fifth at 407, just a couple of shots ahead of LCC.

Gage Burns of Creighton shot the low round of the day, covering the 18 holes in 72 shots, eight strokes in front of Miguel Balvantin of Ponca.

Aidan Junck shot the low round for the Bears with a 96, which slipped him into the medals at 15th.

Bradyn Urwiler was 19th with a 98, Jackson Hall came in 22nd after firing an even 100 and Kolten Settje rounded out the scoring with a 115, which put him in 40th.

On April 29, the Bears traveled to Battle Creek for the Pierce Invitational.

The invite was moved from Pierce due to unplayable course conditions.

Pierce won the event, despite playing on the road, with a total of 350, 38 strokes better than Cedar Catholic, which was the runner-up with a 388.

The Bears wound up seventh out of 15 teams after coming in with a 415. Jackson Hall was just outside the top 10 medals, earning 12th after shooting a 95.

Junck was 16th with a 96, Urwiler carded a 105 and Bloom came in at 119.

LCC will return to action May 4 at the Wayne Invitational and then travel to Randolph for an invitational on May 8.
