Baier opens law office in Laurel

— Angie Steffen Laurel Advocate

LAUREL — Alissa Baier will be welcomed to the community and her law practice during an open house from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 26.

The law firm of Galyen Boettcher Baier PC, LLO is opening a branch office in Laurel. Baier will be serving clients from the Laurel office, located at 105 E. 2nd Street, Suite 2, on Thursdays and Fridays. The firm also has locations in Norfolk and O’Neill with two other attorneys, Jeff Galyen and Ashley Boettcher.

Baier has been a lawyer since 2016. She said she enjoyed civil clinic the most in law school because it gave her real world hands-on experience.

“I had the opportunity to work with veterans and low income individuals doing pro bono work,’’ she said. “I just decided in elementary school to become an attorney. I didn’t know any attorneys. I just wanted to be one and stuck with it.’’

After obtaining her undergraduate degree in agricultural economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Baier continued her education at Nebraska College of Law. Upon graduating law school in 2016, she worked out of the firm in the O’Neill location for a few years before moving to Laurel when she married her husband, Marcus.

She then worked primarily out of the Norfolk office. Now she will be splitting her time between the three locations. She hopes to build a client base in Laurel and the surrounding area to where she can work full-time from the Laurel location.

Born in Creighton, she grew up on a farm and graduated from Creighton High School. She was one of four children. Baier’s mother, Neva taught school, and her father Dan farmed.

“I enjoy helping on the farm,’’ she said. “Since I grew up on a farm, I enjoy helping farm families with succession issues. I am passionate about helping farmers, ranchers, and business owners develop a succession plan that not only smoothly transitions their operation to the next generation but also preserves family harmony. Baier has expertise in the complexities and tax implications of estate planning, probate, and trust administration.’’

Her husband is a graduate of the College of Ag Resources.

“When we got married, I knew we would locate in northeast Nebraska because his farm is here.

“Everyone is very welcoming,’’ she said of the Laurel area.

The office will be open on Thursday and Friday or by appointment. The office will be a general practice law firm with estate planning, real estate help, family law, divorce and civil litigation services.

When Baier is not practicing law, she can be found helping on the farm or chasing cattle, raking hay, or fixing fence on her family farm. She also enjoys playing the piano, spoiling her nieces and nephew, traveling abroad, fishing and cheering on the Huskers.

“Laurel is a very welcoming, thriving, and caring community. We are fortunate to be able to call Laurel home. I look forward to getting more involved in the community and fulfilling the need for legal services in the area,” Baier said.

Baier has always been a believer in getting involved in the community. In the past she has been involved with:

• Teammates Mentoring Program, Mentor

• Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sunday School Teacher

• Eighth Judicial District Bar Association, Past President

• Holt County Hometown Leadership Institute, Graduate

• UNL College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Alumni Association Board of Directors, Vice President.
