Area residents show their support for cancer survivors

RANDOLPH — Despite changes forced by the coronavirus pandemic, the show still went on here Sunday.

The annual Cedar County Relay for Life event took place in Randolph Aug. 30 — sort of.

Over 340 luminariers were set out for people to look at as they drove by or walked by the park area.

Volunteers also handed out 26 survivor bags.

Organizers didn’t have any final tallies as of press time, but it is estimated the event raised at least $17,500 for the fight against cancer.

Joedy and Marlene Sellon won the silent auction for the quilt that was donated by Pastor Judy Carlson.

It was very fitting for Marlene to claim the quilt as she is a 56-year survivor.

Next year’s Cedar County Relay for Life event is also scheduled to be held in Randolph.

It is expected that event should look a lot more like the events of the past with a community meal, survivor’s walk, speeches and other events.
