Area residents are still able to enjoy fireworks

LAUREL — Chad Young decided to make a difference.

Due to the directed health measures in place, many communities and organizations modified or completely cancelled their Independence Day Celebrations.

The longtime Laurel resident and fireworks enthusiast didn’t want the same for his community.

“I love designing special shows and really felt compelled to put on another great show for the many in our community who chose to stay home this year,” Young said.

And he did not disappoint.

According to those who witnessed Young’s show, it was nearly 20 minutes of beautiful entertainment.

“The fireworks were awesome,” Cheryl Bathel said. “Thank you to Chad Young for putting this on.”

Numerous vehicles filled the open lot at Haskell Field as well as the parking lot at Ace Hardware.

Roger and Linda Klausen enjoyed the show and captured many great pictures from their driveway.

In addition to a large sum of time and money, countless hours of sweat equity were spent preparing for this year’s show.

Prepping the area where the show took place was of utmost importance to Young. Young sprayed the area to the east of Haskell Field for bugs as well as groomed the grass for preventative measures and to provide a good environment for spectators.

“With all of the Covid stuff, everything was up in the air. I didn’t want my family and community to miss out on a big show in light of everything going on,” he said. “I planned on doing a show for my family and close friends anyway, so I figured I would just invite the community to join in the experience.”

Young and his wife, Krista, have three children: Freya, Patrick, and Chloe.
