Area Methodist churches welcome new pastor

LAUREL — The Laurel and Logan Center United Methodist Churches have welcomed a new pastor, Pastor Patrick Broz and his wife, Pastor Abby Caseman.

The former pastor, Pastor Darren Timberlake, has been appointed to serve the Methodist churches in Weeping Water and Nehawka near Omaha.

Pastor Abby will be serving the churches in South Sioux City, Homer and Dakota City as their pastor.

Pastor Patrick grew up in Derby, Kansas, and completed his college education at Wichita State University.

As an undergraduate he had a dual major in history and education and completed his master’s degree program in American History.

After graduate school he worked as a part-time instructor for Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.

He entered seminary at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio.

While he was exploring his calling to credentialed ministry, he worked at the Upward Bound Math Science Regional Center at Wichita State.

Pastor Patrick has served churches in Salina, Lindsborg, Kingman, and Colby, Kansas, his most recent appointment.

He comes to the pulpit as an ordained Elder of the United Methodist Church.

The pastors have settled in Nebraska as empty nesters. Their four adult children reside in Ohio and Kansas.

Pastor Patrick’s hobby is working with model railroads and he runs N scale trains in his developing layout.

As a pastor, Patrick’s passions are in discipleship and mission.

He served two years as the chairman of the Kansas West Conference’s board of Discipleship. During this time he wrote a field guide through a program called “Guest Quest.”

He is a certified trainer for Church Unique and to date is the only person in Kansas or Nebraska serving a local church who is certified in this process.

Pastor Patrick encourages the people in churches he serves to adopt a new definition of worship.

“Worship is not what one does for an hour on Sunday morning in a specific place inside a specific building,” he said.”Rather, worship is every action one takes, every word one says, and the motive behind those words and deeds. Everything we do is an act of worship and should reflect the One we worship.”

Pastor Patrick began serving the Laurel and Logan Center Churches on July 1. His first Sunday service will be on July 11 at both churches.

A welcome luncheon, hosted by the SPPRC Committee, will be held in the fellowship hall following the service in Laurel.
