Area budget hearings are on the schedule

RANDOLPH — Area residents will soon get their chance to examine the proposed expenditures of area governmental entities as several budget hearings will be held in the upcoming days.

Details of all these budgets can be found in the pages of this week’s Randolph Times.

The city of Randolph will hold its budget hearing Sept. 9, at the City Office, to vote on a proposed $6.865 million budget.

This is 26 percent higher than last year’s budget. The city is only requesting a four percent increase in its tax asking, however.

Last year, the city Council required $177,568 from property taxes to operate the city. This year, the Council is asking for $184,904 in property taxes to operate during the 2020-21 budget year.

The Randolph Public School will hold a special hearing Sept. 14 to set the final tax request for its 20-21 budget year. The local school district is asking for $3.524 million in property taxes to support a $7.9 million operating budget for the next fiscal year. This is $23,000 higher than last year’s tax asking.

Cedar County will hold its budget hearing Sept. 8. The county is proposing a $24.683 million budget this year.

The village of Magnet will hold its budget hearing Sept. 8.

The Belden Rural Fire District held its hearing Aug. 19, but it was decided at the hearing to increase the budget. The new budget is being published inside this week’s Randolph Times.
