Area BBQ chefs help cook up funds for Fire and Rescue squad

RANDOLPH — Randolph Fire and Rescue held their 1st Annual “BBQ to the Res-Q” Saturday at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Proceeds of the event went toward a new ambulance.

The day began at 7 a.m. with 10 BBQ competitors. Each competitor was given a pork butt, pork ribs and chicken thighs.

As the meat smoked all day, a corn hole tournament began at 3 p.m. with 13 teams participating. Cash prizes were given for the first, second, third and best overall. Local residents judged the meat according to the Midwest BBQ Association guidelines.

Cash prizes were awarded for three categories, smoke pork butt, smoked ribs and chicken thighs for first, second, third and best over all. After the judging, the community was invited to enjoy the BBQ meats, hamburgers, hot dogs and sides.

Kids were also able to enjoy a bounce house. The evening ended with a beer garden and live music by Cactus Flats.
