Activity Center Committee shares plans

OSMOND — On Tuesday, Dec. 3, the Osmond Activity Center Committee met to take steps toward developing a proposed plan to integrate the current school facilities housing the weight room, fitness room and wrestling room into a single structure that also includes theadditionofasecondgymnasium.

Architectural and engineering design consultant, The Clark Enersen Partners, met with committee members and led the meeting through their specialized knowledge and expertise in PK-12 school design of activity centers that include gymnasiums, walking tracks, weight rooms and fitness centers.

The Activity Center Committee plans to make a recommendation to the District 42R school board for a March 10, 2020, bond vote through a mail-in ballot. The main benefits of this special bond vote is timelines of construction and completion of the project, along with access to interest rates before they increase.

If the bond is passed in March, construction could be completed in August 2021 before the 2021-22 school year begins.

If the bond vote is postponed to May, construction will occur through the fall and winter months of 2021, coinciding with fall and winter sports schedules.

During December and January, The Clark Enersen Partners will begin to develop space planning diagrams and conceptual renderings, illustrating the renovation and addition of existing facilities.

These concepts will be presented through 3-D drawings and virtual reality walk-throughs at community engagement meetings starting mid-January with periodic updates through the March 10, 2020, bond vote.

Community and district-wide public participation is strongly encouraged as this will be a facility that everyone can access and enjoy.

“The Activity Center Committee recognizes the importance of creating a vibrant and healthy community, and looks forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions as we embark upon this momentous endeavor,” committee members said. “Please visit our Facebook page and Follow us to receive important updates.”
