Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is available for children 5 years and older

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the expanded ap proval of COVID-19 Bivalent vaccine boosters for children ages 5 years and older on Oct. 12, 2022. These boosters were made to target the versions of the COVID-19 virus that has been present in local communities. This announcement has expanded the availability of the Bivalent Vaccines for the following groups: Children 5-11 years old can now get a Bivalent Booster Persons 6-17 years of age can now choose between getting a Moderna Bivalent Booster or a Pfizer Bivalent Booster if they are eligible To be able to get this shot, persons must: Be 5 years of age or older and completed a primary series of COVID-19 vaccine (either 1 shot of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine or 2 shots of Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine) Have been 2 months since your last COVID-19 vaccine Have not had a Bivalent Booster shot yet With this announcement, boosters of the original vaccine are no longer available for individuals 5 years of age and older. Persons needing to start or complete first or second shots are still able to get their COVID-19 vaccinations with the original vaccine.

NCDHD will have these boosters available at all clinics starting Oct.
