Cedar County authorities search for fugitive

Man remains at large after fleeing from deputies

HARTINGTON —A fugitive remains at large after a pursuit east of Wynot Tuesday night.

Thirty-four-year-old Nathan Murphree’s whereabouts remain unknown but the Yankton man is not considered to be dangerous to the public, the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

At about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office was notified that South Dakota authorities were in pursuit of a vehicle heading into Cedar County.

Deputies intercepted the vehicle east of Wynot on Highway 12 near 571 Avenue by successfully deploying a tire deflation device.

A female passenger was taken into custody and transported to Cedar County jail.

Murphree, the driver, fled on foot into a corn field.

An extensive search of the the area was conducted on the ground using officers and K-9s, as well as in the air, but Murphree was not located.

He is described as 6-foot-tall and 150 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing only red shorts.

Although he is not considered dangerous, the public should not approach Murphee if they see him. Instead, call 911. Anyone with information on his whereabouts, should call the Cedar County sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by law enforcement from Yankton, Dixon, and Dakota counties; Nebraska Game & Parks; Nebraska State Patrol; and Cedar County Emergency Management.
