Bears get two medals at Winside

WINSIDE — The LCC wrestlers returned from the holiday break in good shape, posting a dual win over Winnebago on Friday and bringing home two medals from a tough Winside Invitational on Saturday.

In Friday’s dual, the Bears edged Winnebago 36-28, winning two of the three contested matches in the dual in the old LCC gym.

Nolan Ohlrich picked up a third-period pin to get LCC started at 145 pounds, and Branden Meyer closed the dual with a 33-second pin at 132 pounds. Ethan Williams lost on a major decision at heavyweight.

On Saturday, the Bears finished 10th in the 12-team tournament at Winside and came away with a pair of medalists.

Williams earned consolation honors at 220 pounds, coming back from a semifinal loss to the eventual champion to earn a pin over Jack Baumert of Guardian Angels Central Catholic.

Ohlrich also picked up a medal, finishing fourth at 145 pounds.

The Bears are back in action Saturday at the Battle Creek Invitational. They will also wrestle in the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament Thursday, Jan. 17 at Randolph.
