Bears get off to great start with blowout wins
LAUREL — The LCC boys basketball team shot the ball well in both of their season-opening games last week, coming away with a pair of blowout wins to start the season 2-0.
On Thursday, the Bears had four players in double figures and the offense shot the ball well, hitting more than 40 percent from the field in a 91-60 home win over Siouxland Christian.
Both teams shot the ball well in the early going, but the Bears took a 14-point lead at the break and pulled away in the second half to come away with the easy win.
Noah Schutte had a double-double for the Bears, finishing with a game-high 27 points and grabbing a team-best 17 rebounds. Izac Refienrath added 24 points, Evan Haisch tossed in 14, and Ty Erwin had 12.
Also scoring were Cael Hartung and Austin Hall with six apiece and Ryan Bathke with two. Reifenrath had six assists, six steals and five rebounds; Schutte added four assists and five steals; Hall had nine rebounds, Erwin added seven and Haisch had four.
On Friday night, Reifenrath and Schutte were an unstoppable duo as the Bears rolled to an 82-61 win at Crofton.
LCC led by nine at the half, but went on a 30-point explosion in the third quarter to take control of the game and cruise to their second win of the season.
Reifenrath lit up the nets for 31 points and Schutte added 28 for the Bears. Erwin added eight points, Hartung and Haisch each had six and Hall had three.
Schutte had 15 rebounds, four assists and four blocks for the Bears. Reifenrath grabbed 11 caroms and had five assists and three steals; Erwin added seven rebounds and Haisch had five.
LCC played at Homer on Tuesday and will host Emerson-Hubbard and Randolph on Friday and Saturday.
