LCC cross country runners qualify for State meet

PENDER — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge cross country squad parlayed a team total of 37 points at the Class D-3 District Cross Country Meet at the Twin Creeks Golf Course near Pender Oct. 13 into a trip to the state meet.

The 2022 Nebraska School Activities Association Cross Country Championships will be held Oct. 21 at the Kearney Country Club.

Norfolk Catholic won the team title with 24 points and Lyons-Decatur Northeast was second at 34, just three spots ahead of the Bears.

LCC had two runners in the top 15, led by Tyler Olson, who placed seventh with a time of 18 minutes, 39.20 seconds over the 5,000-meter course. Preston Rose was 13th in 18:52.90.

Carter Korth was just three spots out of the medals at 18th with a time of 19:27.10, Koby Detlefsen was 45th in 21:50.50 and Taner Stanley was 62nd with a 24:13.90.

Brody Taylor of Ponca won the individual race with a time of 17:23.30, followed by Gannon Walsh of Pender, who used a 17:45.70 showing to finish second.

Crofton won the girls title with a total of 13 points, Homer was second with 23 points and Oakland-Craig rounded out the team qualifications for the state meet with 49 points. The LCC girls were eighth with 81 points.

Jordyn Arens of Crofton was the individual champion with a time of 19:19.10. Lilly Harris of Homer was second in 20:25.00.

Addy Hoeppner led the LCC girls using a 24:16.50 to place 23rd and right behind her was Kate Tasler in 24:28.40 to place 24th. Gabriella Kock was 46th in 33 minutes.

The NSAA Cross Country Championships are set to begin at noon Oct. 21 with the Class D boys’ race, with the girls set for 1 p.m.
