Bears put it on cruise control to roll past Wolfpack

LAUREL — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge seems to be hitting its stride if the game against the Tri County Northeast Wolfpack is any indication.

The Bears wasted little time in grabbing control of the basketball game, and by the time the dust settled, LCC had earned its third win in four starts this young season with a 66-27 win.

Carter Kvols got things rolling for the Bears with a canned 3-pointer with 6:40 left in the opening eight minutes to put the Bears up 5-2.

He stole the ball after a free throw from Jake Rath made it 6-4, and found Kolby Hansen for a 15-foot jump shot, which started a 20-2 run for his team.

Rath grabbed a missed shot and put it back in the basket before Eli Haisch hit one from behind the arc and the score was 13-4.

Gibson Roberts hit a basket in the paint and then grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for a lay-up to make it 17-4.

Later in the period, Roberts followed his own missed shot and scored to make it 24-4.

The Bears closed out the quarter with a pass from Dylan Taylor to Roberts and another Roberts bucket inside.

The second quarter was more of the same and Kvols ended the half just as he had started it, with a 3-pointer, to send the teams to the locker room with the Bears on top, 46-11.

LCC kept the foot on the gas in the second half; in fact, the continuous clock was implemented in the fourth frame when the Bears went up by more than 35 points.

“I liked the way we played the entire game,” LCC coach Todd Erwin said. “We didn’t get sloppy — we just kept playing hard.”

Roberts led the Bears with 17 points on the night. Rath added 14 with a 5-of-5 performance from the field.

Kvols finished with a dozen and Hansen added nine.

Rath made it a doubledouble by grabbing 13 rebounds in the game; Kvols added seven.

The Bears were set to return to action at Ponca Dec. 13 to take on the Indians.

They will continue on the road with games at Plainview Dec. 16 and Bloomfield Dec. 20 to finish out the pre-holiday portion of the schedule.
