Lady Hawks fall to St. Mary’s Cardinals

O’NEILL — The Osmond-Randolph Lady Hawks traveled to O’Neill on Thursday, Dec. 1, to face the No. 3 D2 rated St. Mary’s Cardinals. The Cardinals showed early why they were a state semi-finalist last year and lost only one senior from last year’s team.

The Cardinals’ defensive pressure helped them race out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Hawks were able to settle down and finally get the ball through the hoop in the second quarter as Erin Engel

scored the first-ever official points for Osmond-Randolph as she went 4-4 from the charity stripe in the period.

Unfortunately, St. Mary’s had the momentum rolling and scored another 22 points in the second quarter to build up a 44-10 lead going into halftime.

The Hawks responded well to start the third period as both the offense and defense came out to hot starts making shots and getting stops. But then they went on a cold run while St. Mary’s was able to get back on track.

Osmond-Randolph would drop its first game as a new co-op to St. Mary's by a final of 20-67. Senior Cali Gutz

led the team with 11 points, shoot- ing 3 of 4 from three in the process.

Sophomores Keli Aschoff and Sophie Gansebom would add 4 and 1 points, respectively, while senior Erin Engel finished with 4 points and a team- leading 8 rebounds.
